Mutoni:
The Innovator of Kiruku

This comic book follows the journey of Mutoni, a teenage girl from the rural Gakenke district who is fascinated by science. Despite daily chores and societal discouragement, she refuses to give up on her dreams. She teams up with colleagues, Simbi and Kagabo, to create an invention that revolutionizes agriculture, gaining recognition locally and internationally. Driven by a desire to make the world better through the magic of science, the power of technology, and the hope of innovation, the young inventors inspire people across generations to pursue impactful ideas. Their journey is only beginning, and they remain committed to improving lives and uplifting communities.

Anthologies that contain my work

Twaweza

This collection features two of my creative non-fiction stories. “Evil Behind Changes” follows my childhood neighbour Nunu, who was believed to have gone mad because of evil spirits, while “A Life with Kaka” reflects on my childhood with my grandmother and how those years shaped me. The collection is a product of the Pen Pen African Writers Residency 2020, held in Nairobi, Kenya. It brings together 24 stories by writers from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, and Zambia who took part in the residency.

Bean without Korkor? And Other Stories

My African-futurism short story “You See Mama,” published in this short story collection by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), follows Gatesi, a young woman who lost her mother to COVID-19 in 2020. Now living in Kigali in 2040, she navigates a transformed world while holding on to her mother’s memory and striving to make her proud. The story moves between the past, present, and future, exploring the power of memory and the enduring value of a mother. “You See Mama” was inspired by UNECA’s A Decade of Action short story call and appears alongside works by creative writers from across Africa.

Love’s Eternal Tale

My poem “Embers of Transition,” featured in “Love’s Eternal Tales: Poems on Love and Relationships,” captures the process of healing after heartbreak: finding acceptance and peace through meditation and self-realization. Alongside my work, the anthology presents 26 poems by members of the Writers Space Africa–Rwanda chapter. The pieces explore the yearning for love, the joy of blossoming relationships, the pain and complexity of heartbreak, and the strength of moving forward. Each poem is beautifully accompanied by an illustration. I also served as the editor of this collection.

Threads and Faces: Stories on Identity and Belonging

“Threads and Faces: Stories on Identity and Belonging” features one of my creative non-fiction stories, “A Thread to the Past.” In it, I return to a football playground from my childhood, revisiting the memories it stirs and the lessons that continue to shape me. This anthology grew out of the African Writers Trust (AWT) Creative Non-Fiction Workshop, held in 2022, and includes works by writers from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, and Sudan.
